Sony “in talks” with Microsoft about a Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive
Engadget:
About 48 milliseconds after the format war was officially over, rumors started running rampant (again) about Blu-ray making its way over to Microsoft’s latest console. Now, however, those rumors actually have some legs — well, at least a leg. According to Stan Glasgow, Sony Electronics US president, “Sony is in talks with console rival Microsoft about offering a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360.” For whatever it’s worth, the exec also noted that it was having similar discussions with Apple, which has yet to even offer a Blu-ray option on any of its machines. Unfortunately, not a peep was uttered about potential launch dates and the like, but you can rest assured that we’ll be keeping an ear dangerously close to the ground.

Well, we have all lived in the time where Microsoft was on the side when HD DVDs were in existent, but now its not like how it was. There is a new leader in town, and its name has a big B in the front of it. So, whether the decision that the XBOX will now have a Blue Ray Disc player is not up to us, we are merely the consumers.
However, whoever does have to make this deicion must make a wise one, because if Toshiba decides to come back and make there DVDs revived, then Microsoft’s switching back and forth may sway their consumer product support. Well, just keep in mind on this one that Microsoft is just there for the ride when it comes to choosing the better High Definition player, whether it be Blue Ray Disc, or HD DVD.
My opinion in the matter is that XBOX not include Blue Ray players with the XBOX’s, because there are already HD DVD players for the XBOX, more accessories for the XBOX means less space that I have to keep all of the occupying accessories. Alright, it may not be a good cover story, but all in all, Blue Ray Disc players should just be with themselves stand-alone. I would much rather pay 150$ for a stand-alone HD Player than an XBOX player, mostly because I don’t really have an XBOX, or a PS3 for that matter.
Its alright for Sony to keep its PS3 in the Blue Ray Disc Format, because Sony is the compay that actually made the PS3, and over priced it as well, for the amount of games it has, its pretty decently over-priced. But worry not, in a few years, it will go down, and the PS3 will be almost as much the XBOX.
